A summary of the meeting held on February 1, 8, and 15 to gather public input on whether or not certain County Roads should be opend for Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) use. The County Commissioners directed staff to hold these input sessions to gather basic information on each of the routes and summarize specific reasons why each road could be opened, or why they should remain closed of OHV use. County staff also compiled a summary of all comments at the meetings and written comments submitted. To view the report and comment summary please click here.
A special work session will be held on June 6, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. to develop criteria to review county roads for possible OHV use. (Please note change of date)
On Monday, April 30, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin a project that includes repair and resurfacing of a US 24 bridge near Trout Creek Pass, between mile marker 221 and mile marker 222 (about 10 miles northeast of Johnson Village). CDOT contracted the work to Wildcat Construction of Colorado Springs for $370,000.
During routine inspection by CDOT's bridge engineers, it was discovered that one of the bridge's abutments (where bridge meets land) had moved several inches. The 129-foot structure, build in 1957, will be upgraded with current technology - getting two steel expansion joints that can each acommodate 1 to 4 inches of movement. In addition, the bridge's concrete deck will be removed to various depths, and the entire deck will be resurfaces and given a water-proofing membrane to preserve its service life.
Schedule & Travel Impacts: The project is scheduled to last through the end of June 2012. During construction, motorists can expect traffic delays as intermittent single-lane closures are anticipated. Chaffee County Road 307 and 309 will be closed at each end of the bridge for the duration of the project. Wide and overweight loads must use alternate routes via SH 9, US 50 or US 24 through Leadville. General work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The speed limit will be reduced to 25 MPH through the work zone.
Questions or Comments: The public may call the project hotline at 719-966-4668 or write to us24chaffee@PublicInfoTeam.com.
