Meetings have been scheduled for the purpose of group discussions regarding the use of OHV's on certain Chaffee County roads. The attached memo (County OHV Roads Discussion Group) provides some background on the use of County Roads for OHV, why the County would have to specifically open roads, and information on the roads being considered. The memo also discusses the role of the discussion group. We realize this is a controversial issue, and that consensusmay not be achieved. However, the first and foremost rule is that the conversations will be respectful to all participants. This group will not be making final decisions, and the ultimate result may be a list of recommendations or a list of "pros and cons" as to why a road should or should not be opened. Following completion of these meetings, the County Commissioners may hold a public hearing to consider opening of certain roads for OHV use, at which point all interested parties are again welcome to comment.
Any questions may be directed to Don Reimer, P.E., AICP, Chaffee County Development Director, 719-530-5566.
